Resources: Websites
The following is a list of recommended websites with brief synopses.
Plan2Adapt is a B.C.-Focused tool that can help you construct a picture of future climate change in your region. You can use the tool to:
- Explore individual climate variables such as temperature and precipitation, and to download related maps, graphs, and data tables
- Summarize key climate changes and potential impacts for your region.
Currently the Plan2Adapt tool is in development. You can access the site by contacting the developers via the website.
Simon Fraser University ACT: ACT is a group of people at SFU with a common cause: to develop effective responses to the challenges of climate change.

Adaptation toolkit prepared by ICLEI-Oceania. This toolkit contains some really useful information on processes. This is a highly recommended resource.
Wikiadapt is a flexible, accessible, inclusive medium for enhancing the knowledge-base of the climate adaptation community. It provides analysts and decision-makers with up-to-date information on vulnerability to climate change and tools for screening adaptation options to manage present and future climatic risks.
UK Climate Impacts Program Adaptation Wizard is a tool to help you adapt to climate change. It will take you through a 5-step process that will help you to assess your vulnerability to current climate and future climate change, identify options to address your key climate risks, and help you to develop a climate change adaptation strategy. It primarily uses a risk assessment method.

Adapting infrastructure to a changing climate. This website from Engineers Canada holds the work of the Vulnerability Committee. The committee was created to conduct an engineering assessment of the vulnerability of Canada's public infrastructure to the impacts of climate change. They have examples of work with various communities including a methodology for doing vulnerability assessments on infrastructure. They are interested in working with rural communities in the Columbia Basin.

Ministry of Forests and Range “Adapting to Climate Change.” The BC Ministry of Forests and Range maintains a website devoted to information on adaptations to climate change pertaining to crown forest and rangelands. Through the website, readers can subscribe to the "Adapting to Climate Change Newsletter," participate in the "Climate Change and Forest Management" seminar series, and access a range of information and reports.
NRCAN plant hardiness website from Natural Resources Canada has produced a website through which users can obtain current and potential range maps and other information for selected plant species. Through “Canada’s Plant Hardiness Site,” plants can be searched by scientific name, common name, family or genus. Climate change models are provided along with other information for numerous species; the models show how a changing climate might affect species distributions.
A climate action resource for local government by local government in collaboration with UBCM, Smart Planning for Communities & the Province of BC. This site focuses on mitigation and reducing emissions.

Royal Museum Maps. High resolution illustrative climate scenario maps were created based on downscaling of low-resolution Global Climate Model (GCM) results using high resolution historical temperature & precipitation observations. These maps are not forecasts of species distribution but are forecasts of the physical climate conditions preferred by these species.
