Assess Vulnerability and Risk: Useful Material
Useful Guidebooks and Websites
Climate Impacts Group (CIG) Preparing for Climate Change Guidebook This guidebook was especially utilized by Elkford during their Vulnerability and Risk Assessment Process. Chapters eight and nine have comprehensive information on how to conduct a vulnerability and risk assessment.
Ontario Municipal Risk Assessment Guidebook This guidebook was also used extensively by Elkford. The guidebook presents a risk-based approach that can be used to facilitate municipalities’ efforts to adapt to climate change through both longer term planning and short-term responses.
Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee The Vulnerability Committee was created to conduct an engineering assessment of the vulnerability of Canada's public infrastructure to the impacts of climate change. It is co-funded by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and Engineers Canada.
Powerpoint Presentation on Assessment Approaches
Assessment Approaches presentation ppt 1,023KB This quick Powerpoint presentation (12 slides) describes different types of assessments and when they are most useful. It addresses impact assessment, risk assessment, vulnerability assessment, policy assessment, integrated assessment and adaptation assessment. The presentation was compiled on October 2, 2008 by Jennifer Pouliotte (Ministry of Environment, Victoria, B.C.).
