Get Started: Useful Material
Kimberley and Elkford's Final Reflection Presentations, June 2, 2009
Members of the Communities Adapting to Climate Change Learning Network shared experiences and learnings from Kimberley's and Elkford's one-year-long adaptation planning process. Twenty-six participants joined an on-line meeting to hear the stories of what took place in terms of research, data gathering, impact, vulnerability and risk assessments.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement
A Framework for Stakeholder Engagement on Climate Adaptation, John Gardner et al., CSIRO Climate Adaptation National Research Flagship Working Paper No. 3, CSIRO, Australia, 2009 pdf 566 KB
The paper presents guidelines on how to best engage stakeholders on the issue of climate change adaptation. It puts forward a preliminary model of adaptation engagement. The model is presented as a pathway of stages, with different drivers and barriers relevant at different stages along the pathway.
Slide Bank
The following Powerpoint presentations can be used as a complete presentation, or the slides can be used individually.
Adaptation Planning Process Support Slides (ppt 1.1MB)
These 10 slides may be useful when you are required to illustrate all or parts of the adaptation planning process to local stakeholders. They provide more insight/substance on both the "what" and the "how" of adaptation planning.
Communicating for Action (ppt 88KB)
Throughout the process there may be a need to communicate that action on climate change is possible. These two slides list a range of responses for taking action on climate change (both adaptation and mitigation).
Assessment Approaches presentation (ppt 1,023KB)
This quick Powerpoint presentation (12 slides) describes different types of assessments and when they are most useful. It addresses impact assessment, risk assessment, vulnerability assessment, policy assessment, integrated assessment and adaptation assessment. The presentation was compiled on October 2, 2008 by Jennifer Pouliotte (Ministry of Environment, Victoria).
Conflicting and Complementary Adaptation and Mitigation Actions (ppt 76KB)
This single slide is a good resource for explaining the difference between adaptation and mitigation actions.
Presentation on Getting Started, October 15, 2009 (ppt 1.3MB)
This presentation was used during a workplanning session with three communities Getting Started in the adaptation planning process (15 October 2009). It includes general process material as well as an introduction to learning about climate change, scanning for impacts as well as vulnerability and risk assessment information.
